Summerlin is a large master-planned community sitting partially on the western and northwestern ends of Las Vegas, and partially in unincorporated Clark county. This rapidly growing community of 100,000 people was originally a 25,000-acre parcel of empty land bought by Howard Hughes Jr. in the 1950s. Today the western end of his original property is now a buffer zone owned by the Nature Conservancy, preserving Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area from property development.
Summerlin is divided into distinct communities called Villages. Within each Village is a variety of smaller subdivisions. Some Villages have shared amenities for the entire community, and others have subdivisions with their own amenities.

The council also administers an award-winning system of over 150 miles of numerous trails that connect the villages: Some of these are hiking trails for nature lovers, while others run alongside streets for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy. Both the council and the city of Las Vegas run several swimming pools in the community. Summerlin also organizes soccer and baseball leagues for residents of all ages to enjoy, and they also operate several large community and social centers.
If you’re a golfer, there are nine spectacular courses to choose from, including 2 TPC courses that host PGA tour events, and a course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
